Celebrities like Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Usher and Ryan Seacrest vow not to use Twitter and Facebook. The temporary social media blackout is part of $1 Million fundraiser for Alicia Keys sponsored charity called "Keep A Child Alive", which takes place of December 1, 2010.

The social experiment hopes that fans will pay $1 Million to bring their
favorite celebrities like Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Ryan Seacrest
and many more “back” online. “We're trying to sort of make the remark”
says Leigh Blake, the president and co-founder of Keep a Child Alive
“why do we care so much about the death (social media blackout) of one
celebrity as opposed to millions and millions of people dying in the
place that we're all from?”
Is this a new form of social marketing, or a weird mode of social
de-marketing or hostage taking? Could there have done it differently?
Have your say, and be heard.
