PHP the widely-used general-purpose scripting language saw plenty of development in 2010. It can even be said that 2010 was a good year for the popular scripting language.
To keep developers abreast with changing trends and fads, PHPClasses, the premier PHP resource, recently published its exclusive PHP Zeitgeist for 2010. This Zeitgeist, even when it is based on PHPClasses database, is regarded by many to be the leading source of analyzing PHP treads, and also serves as a popular development aid across the world.
PHP Zeitgeist is based on aggregation of thousands of search queries typed on PHPClasses site this year. Of those thousands of queries the site selects the top 2000 most searched keywords, and compares the same with the previous year search data to highlight the 100 most prominent keywords of this year. Previously, only 1,000 top keywords were picked for computation; this year the site broadened its analysis to include the top 2000 keyword searches.
After computation, the ranking of the most prominent keywords is published on the site’s PHP Zeitgeist page. The ranking appear in the form of a keyword list, along with a tag cloud.
PHP Zeitgeist 2010 rankings offer innumerable interpretation and analysis opportunities for developers. The Zeitgeist not only serves as a tool for indentifying the needs of PHP community, but also aid developers in understanding the latest PHP trends. Indeed it enables developers to pinpoint areas of deficiency, and thus lead to creation of innovative components to tackle the related problems.
