SMM will account for 10.8% of Online Market in 2011

According to a research conducted by eMarketer.com, marketers around the globe will invest $9.05 billion in Social Network advertise this year. Marketers in America alone will spend $3.08 billion on Social Media Marketing (SMM) and ads. This figure constitutes to an increase of 55% over the amount invested by US marketers in 2010.

Facebook, as always, will be a major recipient of these marketing dollars. The research firm expects marketers to spend $4 billion on Facebook this year - double the sum received by the social media giant in 2010.


According to Debra Aho Williamson, the principal analyst behind the above research, “2010 was the year that Facebook firmly established itself as a major force not only in social network advertising but all of online advertising.” She further added, “In 2011, its [Facebook] global presence is something multinational advertisers can’t ignore.

Facebook is becoming a money maker, not only for its creators but for those who are intrepid enough to market their products/services on the platform. Let’s see what the future holds for the social media giant
