RIP Google Videos

April 18, 2011 07:53
Google’s recently pulled the plug on Google Videos and informed users to download or transfer their personal content from the site.

According to the official announcement, videos uploaded on Google Video will no longer be available for playback after April 29th, 2011. Users will have until May 13th, 2011 to transfer or download videos from the site. To facilitate the migration of content from Google Videos to Youtube.com, Google will created an "Upload Videos to YouTube" option for all users. The announcement goes on to say that videos left on Google Videos after the designated date will be automatically deleted.

The sudden announcement has taken many users by surprise! Even when Google stopped accepting new uploads to Google Videos almost two years ago; nobody was expecting Google to pull the plug on the project, especially after such a long delay. Furthermore Google has not given any specific reasons for the sudden closure.

We’ll keep you updated with regard to this developing story. Till then you can tell us how you feel about the sudden shutdown of Google Videos? And in your opinion will this prove to be a good move on part of search giant?
