Mobile internet really got mobile with Alcatel-Lucent Long Term Evolution (LTE) Connected Car. The multi-industry concept car, which was developed under the umbrella of the coveted “ng-Connect” program was recently unveiled to the Middle East audience at QITCOM 2011 held at Doha Exhibition Center, Qatar on May 24-26, 2011.
The connected car, which is built upon a Toyota Prius 2010 hybrid, features integrated LTE hardware/software systems, and offers easy access to high-speed broadband connectivity and cloud based interactive applications. The connected car is equipped with four 9-inch touch screens, integrated with examples of services and applications from 3G and 4G/LTE networks and offers the occupants a wide assortment of in-car entertainment and information services which include enhanced navigation, online videos & music, in-car gaming, webcam access, local based services and much more.
Speaking at the unveiling, Marc Kassis, Senior Country Officer of Alcatel-Lucent stated that the connected car serves to provide an example of how 4G/LTE wireless networks can help make automobiles truly integrated devices. He further added that LTE car may become available in the next few years as advance high-speed wireless networks are deployed worldwide.
Alcatel-Lucent’s choice to showcase the advance car at QITCOM 2011 serves to venerate Qatar’ attempts to become the IT capital of the Middle East. The country’s IT sector is growing and is poised to become the pre-eminent platform for information and communication technology development in the region.
