We all know that Internet is huge – but how HUGE is it? According to a recent IDC and EMC study the size of the data available online doubles every two years. Experts believe that the world will produce 1.8 zettabytes of data this year (this includes newly created and replicated data copied to DVDs and shared on the cloud): a gargantuan collection of ones and zeros all stored online.
But how much is 1.8 zettabytes of data? In numeric terms 1 zeettabyte is equal to 1 billion terabytes of digital space. Another way to put these numbers into perspective it to come up with visual comparisons to represent the incomprehensible collection of ones and zeros.
