In the Twitterverse, nothing remains a secret for very long, it seems.
And when the man whose name is most likely to be associated with
computers in the modern age joins Twitter, it’s time to spread the news
like crazy.
Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft and the richest man in the
world- joined Twitter’s expanding community just eight hours ago. It is
a testament of his popularity that he has attracted the attention of
over 100,000 Twitter followers worldwide in a matter of just five
hours. That’s 20,000 new followers per hour, if anyone cares to do the
math. The reasons might be numerous, from respecting his work in the
field of computing, to his entrepreneurial vision and success, to the
charity work he does through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
It was Caroline Mizumoto who first noticed and alerted the world to
this momentous event, about five hours ago. From then on, the Twitter
network has seen a frenzy of activity only comparable to when talk show
host Oprah Winfrey first joined the community.
Welcome to the Twitterverse, @BillGates. Now excuse me while I join his list of followers…
