It was May 2006 that the search giant Google its state-of-the-art analysis tool called Google Trend. The tool was a public web facility that let the people know how often particular search terms are being
entered into the Google search engine. Since its launch, Google Trends has fast become a popular program to search for the interest of Internet users across the globe regarding a particular topic based on a keyword or a keyword phrase.
In addition to its basic function that is letting anyone see what the world is
searching for, and compare the world's interest in their favorite topics, many
new layers have been embedded to Trends by Google making it way more effective
than it initially was. Some notable upgrades to Google Trends included Hot Trends (launched 2007, updated
every hour), Google Insights
for Search, and lately, Google
trends for websites and an embeddable Google Trends Gadget.
Trends results for most searched American Idol contestants
When a search term is entered into Google Trends, the program analyzes a portion of
Google web searches to calculate the search density for the exact term compared
to the total number of searched done on Google over time. The results appear in
a graphical shape that’s called Search Volume Index graph. Under the main
graph, popularity is broken down by region, city and language. Trends allows
you to compare up to five terms, each one separated with a comma. For example,
to compare ‘boots’ and ‘sneakers’, simply enter boots, sneakers and
click Search Trends.
About the accuracy of the information provided by Google Trends, Google admits that the
data Trends produces may contain inaccuracies for a number of reasons,
including data-sampling issues and a variety of approximations that are used to
compute results. “We hope you find this service interesting and entertaining,
but you probably wouldn’t want to write your Ph.D. dissertation based on the
information provided by Trends” say Google officials.

Google Hot Trends
Hot Trends is an upgraded version of Google Trends with the same basic
functionality except that it is updated multiple times a day. The service does
not measure the absolute popularity of search terms, as these don't tend to
change much over time. Instead, Hot Trends looks for terms that have rapidly
gained popularity relative to their previous rank.
Google Insights for Search
Google Insights for Search allows you to compare search volume patterns across
specific regions, categories, time frames and properties.
Google Trends for Websites
Google Trends for Websites allows you to get insights into the traffic and geographic
visitation patterns of your favorite websites. You can compare data for up to
five websites and view related sites and top searches for each one.
Google Trends Gadget
This is an embeddable gadget that allows you to fetch your desired popular trends
right onto your website. This gadget allows you to see what people are
searching for on your own website. For example, you can show your readers which
American Idol contestants are searched for the most.
