Redefining and magnifying Louvre Abu Dhabi’s presence on the
Internet and developing its website to be a reference digital destination in
the field of culture.

The Client

Louvre Abu Dhabi is an art and civilization museum located in the Saadiyat Island Cultural District, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Inaugurated on November 11th, 2017, the museum is over 24,000 sqm, with 8,000sqm dedicated to galleries. It is the largest art museum in the Arabian Peninsula and signifies a new era of cultural development for the region.

The Brief

Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, on behalf of Louvre Abu Dhabi, requested a website that was a digital representation of the physical museum. The website would replace a temporary landing page and needed to be online one month before the museum opened to the public in November 2017.

The Challenges

The website had to fulfil several very clearly defined objectives:

  • Create excitement about the museum opening.
  • Provide users with easy to access information on everything to do with the museum – location, galleries, exhibitions, activities.
  • Enable users to book tickets online.
  • Be fully responsive and accessible on all devices.
  • Utilise a CMS that empowered business users.
  • A tight & fixed timeframe for planning, development and delivery.

The Strategy

Working closely with Louvre Abu Dhabi, Traffic Digital developed a strategy to ensure timely and successful delivery of the website. Our approach involved:

  • Stakeholder workshops addressing areas such as project plan, milestones, roles & responsibilities.
  • Agile project management that allowed for prioritization on deliverables and ensured the project was continually progressing and moving towards completion.

The Solution

Sitecore: A CMS platform we knew had the capability to deliver the specific creative direction and user experience demanded of the website, while simultaneously providing the speed, performance and availability required, too.

We also knew this platform would enable the website to capture digital fingerprints of every user, providing Louvre Abu Dhabi with critical user information that will prove invaluable for them as they develop and refine their visitor experience in the future.

The Results

Not only did we deliver the website on time, but the excitement it has generated is clear from the initial user response and engagement:

  • 160,000 total visitors within the first 3 months of going live - Sept – Nov 2017
  • 31,017 total tickets sold within the first 3 months of going live – Sept – Nov 2017
